Electric transport refrigeration units (eTRUs) and terminal tractors are emerging as two of the most promising near-term opportunities for freight electrification. These equipment types offer fleets a practical way to “dip their toe” into electrification before transitioning larger or more complex vehicle segments and electrified models can deliver meaningful reductions in local air pollution in and around freight facilities, warehouses, ports, distribution centers, and nearby communities.
This webinar will provide state staff with an overview of the current state of these technologies, their charging and infrastructure needs, and the important role states can play in accelerating deployment. Speakers will discuss key considerations for state agencies, including planning for new electricity load at freight hubs, education and outreach to fleets and facility operators, coordination with utilities, and incentive program design. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of the technology landscape, deployment barriers and opportunities, and how states can support successful adoption of electric freight equipment.
