The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 is one of the most significant climate change policy initiatives ever enacted to reduce carbon emissions and have a major impact on the renewable energy industry. In this session, we aim to explore what progress will be made in this sector and how the IRA will impact areas such as biofuels, solar and wind projects, electric vehicles and industrial projects like carbon capture.

SPEAKERS

Abraham Silverman

Abraham Silverman is the Director of the Non-Technical Barriers to the Clean Energy Transition initiative at Columbia University's Center on Global Energy Policy. The Non-Technical Barriers initiative is designed to identify major legal and regulatory bottlenecks to the clean energy transition and then provide state and federal policy makers pragmatic solutions to address those challenges. Major focus areas include Legal and Regulatory Barriers at the state and federal level, Market Rules and Economic Incentives, and Social Acceptance & Just Deployment of Infrastructure. Over the course of his career, Abe has worked at the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, NRG Energy, Inc., the Federal Regulatory Energy Commission, and represented numerous clients.

Kevin Lee

Kevin Lee is a senior manager in Argus’s consulting practice and advises clients on energy transition engagements, leading the practice in renewable fuels for North America. He is passionate about driving sustainable solutions in the energy sector and has worked with oil majors, renewable fuel producers, government agencies, equity investors, and project lenders impacted by the alternative fuels markets and policies.

Prior to joining Argus, Kevin spent 7 years with ExxonMobil across various different leadership roles in refining and supply coordination. Kevin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical & Biological Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Stuart Page

Stuart Page is a Senior Consultant with the Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office and is focused on outreach and business development. Prior to joining the LPO, he was a Managing Director with The Carlyle Group’s $4BN Energy Mezzanine Opportunities Fund and served on the boards of several public and private companies.

Through his career, Stuart has built multiple entrepreneurial companies, most recently as CEO of Glori Energy, a biotechnology based energy company which he built from startup to IPO in 2014. Stuart has led organizations in 7 countries on 3 continents, he holds a master’s in engineering from Oxford University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Louise Burke

Louise Burke is President of the Energy Forum Advisory Board and is currently working for Argus Media on strategic business initiatives for the company. Prior to this, Ms. Burke was Executive Director of the Energy Forum, and president of J.C. Energy, an energy consulting firm. She has worked extensively in the energy sector analyzing pricing and markets for Mobil Oil Canada, Alberta Energy Company and Petroleos DeVenezuela. In addition, as Vice-President, Marketing for the New York Mercantile Exchange she supervised major energy and metals futures and options product launches and was closely involved in the successful growth of energy commodity markets. Ms Burke has also been affiliated with the SIPA energy program at Columbia University, New York as an instructor in the area of petroleum markets trading since 2008. Ms. Burke holds a BA honors economics degree from the University of Alberta and an MBA from New York University.
