Ron Miller
Ron Miller is an energy industry expert creating value by analyzing assets, markets, technologies, and power usage to identify, monetize, and implement profitable energy and de-carbonization projects. He is a Professional Engineer/MBA/Certified Energy Manager/Renewable Energy Professional experienced in developing and leading global energy projects in the renewable energy, conventional power, and fuels industries, before founding Reliant Energy Solutions LLC. His global energy consultancy provides analysis for energy supply and demand, energy reliability, feasibility, fuel and energy efficiency, and de-carbonization. He has led energy project development at ExxonMobil, Xcel Energy, AECOM, Rio Tinto, and Newmont Corporation. Ron holds a BS in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech and an MBA in Finance from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia.
Ron will discuss decarbonization strategies for industrials. Lowering our globe’s emissions is a major effort as we move toward a future net-zero-carbon environment, and will require significant investment in new low-carbon infrastructure, along with key market incentives to change. Industry will play a key part in this transformation, requiring expertise in both energy and emissions. Key elements of the de-carbonization strategy are: energy data, emissions reporting method, governance, decarb project generation and drivers, the MACC, electrification, and the de-carbonization checklist. For a zero carbon future, it will be key for business leaders to understand de-carbonization, anticipate technological changes, and implement new business methods and processes to remain good stewards of the environment.
Crystal Egelkamp
Crystal Egelkamp is the Benchmarking & BPS Program Manager at the Colorado Energy Office. In this role, Crystal manages the State's benchmarking program, Building Performance Colorado, as well as facilitates the Building Performance Standards (BPS) Task Force. Crystal also works on other building policy and program areas including building codes, beneficial electrification, and workforce development. Before moving to Colorado, Crystal lived in Chicago and worked with various municipalities on their building codes and benchmarking policies. In her free time, Crystal likes to explore all the nature that Colorado has to offer.
Crystal will provide a brief overview of Colorado’s statewide benchmarking program, Building Performance Colorado (BPC). The program was created as a result of the “Energy Performance For Buildings” Statute and requires commercial, multifamily, and public buildings 50,000 square feet or more to annually benchmark their whole-building energy use to the Colorado Energy Office (CEO). The goal of the BPC program is to help Colorado building owners to understand and track energy use from large buildings and reduce GHG pollution economy-wide. The presentation will provide background and upcoming deadlines for the program, as well updates on Colorado’s progress on the development of Building Performance Standards.
