Emerging technologies, falling costs, changing consumer preferences, new energy service providers, and state and local clean energy and resilience goals are driving significant growth in distributed energy resources and bulk power system renewable generation. These changes and many of the states’ energy policy objectives such as clean energy generation, a reliable and resilient electricity grid, equitable distribution of benefits and affordable electricity, impact transmission and distribution planning on the state and regional level.
