Two states (CO and WA) plus numerous cities, including three in CO, have adopted stringent energy benchmarking regulations for existing buildings. These legislative efforts all lead to mandatory energy upgrades across the spectrum of existing buildings. It is likely this trend will continue and that most large or commercial buildings in the U.S. will eventually be impacted by them. Paul will share his perspective on these efforts, based on having promoted Colorado’s 2021 legislation and now sitting on both the CO and Denver Committees charged with implementation.
