Supported by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER), the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO) will host a virtual workshop to educate stakeholders on how the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program can be leveraged to enhance energy resilience. Over the course of three days, speakers will discuss innovative pathways to mitigate hazards that threaten energy system reliability, energy services, and mission critical facilities (e.g., hospitals, shelters, public transportation). Further, the workshop will highlight how energy-related BRIC projects can support human health and safety, justice and equity, and state climate goals. The workshop, in partnership with the National Emergency Management Association (NEMA) and the Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE), will bring together state energy officials, state emergency managers, local officials, energy industry representatives, and federal partners to explore how working together to plan, allocate, leverage, and manage BRIC funding can deliver greater community resilience.
Over the course of three afternoons, attendees will learn about:
-
Comprehensive hazard-specific solutions that mitigate energy infrastructure damage and impacts of power or fuel disruptions;
-
Financing pathways for energy reliability of mission critical facilities and public-serving infrastructure;
-
Utilization of energy efficiency, renewable energy, energy storage, codes, and standards to improve resilience, financial, and environmental outcomes;
-
Equity and environmental justice considerations in pre-disaster mitigation actions; and
-
Technical and administrative solutions to BRIC application process.
Registration is open per day:
A detailed agenda can be found here (Updated as of August 26).
