On April 28, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. ET, NASEO’s Electricity Committee hosted a webinar and discussion on the Solar Automated Permit Processing (SolarAPP) platform, which aims to streamline permitting of safe, code-compliant PV systems, saving contractors and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) time and money. The SolarAPP team, led by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), has developed a set of preliminary permit requirements for qualifying residential systems. In parallel, the SolarAPP team has built a prototype of the permitting platform. During the webinar, Kim Burke from the Colorado State Energy Office outlined her office’s work in the permitting space and interest in the SolarAPP and how her office is engaging with the SolarApp team. Additionally, the webinar provided a discussion of the background and context for the SolarAPP project, preview an early prototype of the SolarAPP platform, identify the role for state energy offices to engage in the project and answer questions about the SolarAPP.
