This webinar will provide brief updates on energy code adoption status and related legislation from around the Northeast. The presentation will also provide an overview of net zero energy code development efforts. Finally, the results of the 2021 IECC development process will be reviewed.

Presenters: 

Moses Riley joined NEEP in June 2019 as an Energy Policy Associate. He works on the Buildings & Community Solutions team providing technical assistance, guidance, and compliance strategies to key stakeholders regarding building energy codes, home energy consumption, and energy policy. Moses facilitates code collaborative groups in three states to help them adopt, enforce, and comply with state energy codes along with other NEEP working groups. He also develops online tracking and technical guidance tools to support NEEP’s stakeholders. Prior to working for NEEP, Moses worked for the Oberlin College Office of Environmental Sustainability and as a Research Assistant in a geology lab. Moses graduated from the Oberlin College of Arts and Sciences in 2019 with a B.A. in Geology and Politics eager to apply his technical education towards sustainability and clean energy systems.

Mike Turns, Director of Energy Code and New Construction Programs, has been with PSD for seven years managing several residential new construction and energy code support programs. Currently, Mike manages the implementation of the Mass Save® Codes and Standards Compliance and Support Initiative, Green Building United’s Philadelphia Energy Code Assessment, and new homes programs in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Before that, Mike led the DOE-funded Pennsylvania Residential Energy Code Field Study. He is an expert in the International Energy Conservation Code and has developed and taught numerous training programs in several states under a variety of code versions. He has over 10 years of energy code training experience and has presented at national conferences like the RESNET, HPC, the DOE Energy Codes Conference, and AESP. Prior to joining PSD, he was the Associate Director of the Pennsylvania Housing Research Center (PHRC) at Penn State University, where he managed the largest provider of residential building code training in Pennsylvania. Mike has a master’s degree from Penn State with a thesis focused on assessing and reducing energy consumption in new homes.
