Blockchain in Energy and Utilities

December 13, 2018, 5:30 - 8:00 PM EDT
Citigroup

Initiatives to explore blockchain solutions continue as industry leaders, regulators and consumers look to improve efficiency and lower costs. In the energy sector, blockchain (the distributed ledger technology that drives bitcoins) is making headway in commodity trading with various pilot projects underway to use the technology to streamline transactions. In utilities, blockchain applications range from peer-to-peer trading at the micro-scale and wholesale level to electric vehicle charging platforms and bitcoin enabled bill pay. The technology is further seen as a mean to mitigate cyber risks.

In this session, our speakers Jared Anderson from Platts and David Groake from Indigo Advisory Group will provide an update on blockchain advancement in energy and utilities. We will explore blockchain's future potential and challenges in the energy industry. David Knapp, our board member and chief economist at Energy Intelligence Group, will moderate the session.
