The Introduction to Building Enclosure Commissioning (BECx) presentation begins with a brief history of commissioning and a discussion of the market drivers, such as LEED v4, behind the increasing popularity of BECx. The presentation will define the building enclosure and identify the performance characteristics of enclosures. The current industry guidelines defining the BECx process and scope will be identified and discussed. Major design and construction phase BECx activities and work product, including the Owner’s Project Requirements, the BECx plan, enclosure design commissioning reviews (with a discussion of relevant building science and architectural issues addressed during the design reviews), construction phase services, and performance testing will be identified and discussed. The presentation will conclude by noting the benefits of BECx.
Speaker Bio - David Young, NORESCO
David is an architect with twenty-five years of experience as a building enclosure consultant. During this time, he has gained extensive experience in building enclosure commissioning (BECx), enclosure design peer reviews as well as the evaluation, analysis, and repair of distressed and deteriorated building envelope components and systems. Many of his projects require an in-depth understanding of the detailing and installation requirements for various enclosure systems and assemblies as well as the interfaces between the systems and assemblies.
