Jon deRidder, Principal of Enabled Energy, will discuss the pros and cons of “modernizing” an existing data center vs. building a new data center (a general discussion regarding the migration of IT services to a colocation facility or to the cloud will also be discussed in this presentation).  Various data center retrofit and control strategies, including mechanical, airflow, and architecture/consolidation (IT) related solutions will be reviewed and discussed in this presentation followed by a Q & A session. The benefits of including a data center review as part of an overall building retro-commissioning study will also be discussed.

There will also be a short Solar Decathlon summary update. The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon is a collegiate competition made up of 10 contests that challenge student teams to design and build full-size, solar-powered houses. This event is being held in Denver in October. Former Solar Decathlon manager, Mike Wassmer, will give a general event update and highlight dates and key events for the public to attend.
